Is theatre a public utility? Does it “deserve” public founding? Which are the pros and cons of sponsoring? Must Italian theatre learn from the European? How can theatre survive, mature, renew, but in its essence never change?

This investigation answers these and more questions. It was committed by the Eliseo Theatre, that wanted to analyse these questions and organize them in a long term planning logic.

The principal aim of this study is, thou, the achievement of an intervention plan on the basis of the picture taken to the theatre sector in the year 2002, that have to survive without altering the cultural subject itself.

The study is based on the persuasion that the public actor as well as the private must work in order to achieve a synergic, efficient, effective approach to the complex theatre sector.
