The aim of this research was to gain a better understanding of policies that will ensure that
the European information and media industry will maintain and increase its
competitive edge.
It analysed the key factors that provide an appropriate
balance between the need to guarantee general access to new digital television
and third generation mobile services and the need to adequately protect
the intellectual property rights in order to stimulate innovation.
In line with
the requests formulated by the European Commission, the study aimed to
identify the areas of intervention aimed at reconciling the conflict between
protecting copyright interests, essential in order to stimulate and provide an
incentive for innovation, and standardisation, which is crucial in order to
guarantee openness and interoperability. |
