The Rosselli Foundation ITeC Institute was set up in 1999 to carry out research in the field of economics, sociology and technology applied to culture and tourism.
Today the Institute acts as a benchmark in the cultural and tourism sectors. This has been achieved through development, surveys and the spread of process and product innovation aimed at improving assets, cultural activities and resources for tourism.
Interest in these themes stems from an awareness of the important role played by the cultural heritage as a key resource in the path to development, above all in non-industrialised areas, and of the importance of tourism, both as an opportunity for economic growth and as a risk factor for the preservation of our cultural heritage. Lastly, the economic importance of cultural consumption is another key aspect when choosing the working themes investigated by the Institute.
ITeC uses applied methods rather than a policy-oriented approach to its own research activities, which range from pilot studies to feasibility projects and the benefit analysis of individual measures in the cultural sector. Working in close relation with national, international and local governmental bodies, financial institutions and the companies to which it acts as consultant, ITeC carries out studies and research activities on topics concerning culture, tourism and the environment, as well as implementing cultural and tourism marketing plans, monitoring activities, evaluating projects and programmes in the cultural and tourism sectors and carrying out activities aimed at developing technological services for tourism and culture.
The topics covered by the Institute include integration projects, also based on the use of new technologies, between the different arts (visual, literary, figurative, performing and musical) to enhance and diffuse knowledge of the cultural heritage, as well as projects to develop tourist-cultural districts seen as instruments of socioeconomic growth, implemented with the aid of new technologies.
ITeC undertakes work for public and private bodies and to do this it collaborates with a selected group of experts drawn from an international spectrum, including economists, sociologists, architects, technology experts, museum specialists and artists. It promotes partnerships with other bodies working in the field of culture and art, such as research institutes, museums, cultural associations, libraries and centres for documentation, international bodies. Moreover, the Institute aims to further the international exchange of expertise and innovation by organising seminars and meetings between experts from a wide range of disciplines.
The Institute operates at a national and international level through a network of contacts and strategic partnerships, also in non-European countries, aimed at setting up experimental projects and the transfer of know-how, with the backing of international donors and the support of national governmental bodies.
