The Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations in collaboration with Fondazione Rosselli and with support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Regione Piemonte, Provincia di Torino, Comune di Torino, Fondazione CRT and Camera di Commercio di Torino is organizing an International Symposium on International Migration and Development, that will be held in Turin from 28 June - 30 June 2006.
The objective of the Symposium, which falls within the framework of the United Nations Secretariat work leading to the High-Level Dialogue of the General Assembly on International Migration and Development, is to debate, at a technical and academic level, key issues that Governments, international organisations and civil society face in addressing the challenges and opportunities that international migration poses in a world where development is uneven and globalization is pervasive. The aim of the Symposium is to focus particularly on issues that can best be addressed at the multilateral level. In doing so, the participation of experts, whether in academia, research institutes or Government, will be crucial. This event will also provide a platform for Government leaders and representatives, high-level officials, representatives of civil society organizations (NGOs) and other key stakeholders, particularly from developing countries and countries with economies in transition, to exchange views, experiences, principles and concepts which are expected to enrich the discussion at the General Assembly in 2006. with the support: MAE, Regione Piemonte, Provincia di Torino, Comune di Torino, Fondazione CRT, Camera di Commercio di Torino For additional information on the High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development please see www.unmigration.org or e-mail: symposium@un.org MEDIA ACCREDITATION.
